About Staley Family History
This is a two-name study - Staley and Staveley - and suggests what I may
be able to offer you.
(1) The two names cover all variant spellings - Starley, Stailey, Stayley, Staly,
Staheli, Stahli, Stavely, Stavly, Stauley, Stehli, etc. So, if you're looking for a
John Starley, search here for John Staley.
The Staley and Staveley surnames have been standardised, as have forenames, to allow
more efficient searches. All variations of names are shown in the 'Spellings' field.
Forenames have also been standardised to allow the maximum results from a search.
(2) Only basic information (hatch, match and despatch, plus variant spellings if any)
is shown for each individual on this site. No details of wills, or occupations, or
how they moved around the country, for example, are given. The FULL VERSION is on my
working database, and is not available on-line.
If you've found what you were hoping for and can show your connection to your ancestor
- do, please, CONTACT ME.
(3) Some dates on my working database are qualified by "bef" "bet" or "aft".
Unfortunately, the gedcom file, on which this website is based on, strips out the
qualifiers, making them a definite date rather than an indicative date - CHECK WITH ME.
If you haven't found what you're looking for, CONTACT ME. There's still around 10,000
names on an old database that I've not yet had to time to copy over. And keep on
coming back! The site is constantly being updated.
The database is a finding tool only. If the information you find seems to be what you
are looking for, check it out against primary sources. I cannot emphasize this too
strongly.
May 2009: I've started a mammoth new project - looking for STALEYS ON PASSENGER
LISTS. Although I've only extracted about 500 so far, it's clear that this is going
to make the reconstructed families on my working database far more interesting. For
the time being, this information will only be available through contacting me.
July 2009: I'm also beginning to add photographs, documents and certificates where
appropriate on the working database. Again, this will only be available to those who
contact me.
THE OTHER STALEY WEBSITE! This is a companion website at
http://sites.google.com/site/staleyfamilyhistorybackground. You'll find a list of
abbreviations used in my working database and which are also shown on this website.
I've started to add Staley stories, and would welcome any contributions you may care to
make. Just email them to me and I'll add them, with an acknowledgement of the author.
I look forward to hearing from you.

The Staley database is dedicated to the memory of my Dad - Sidney V Staley
1909-1973.
